I know you’re here to find a toilet seat. You’re probably a big guy or gal (or have family that is) and just want to know which one is best. Well, I’m going to tell you. But you have to listen to my stories first. That’s just a bad habit I have on this blog. Information for stories. So, buckle up.
It was my best friend’s birthday. I don’t know what was disagreeing with my stomach but it was probably the gluten-free excuse for a cake. I excused myself and headed for the bathroom as quickly as I could without breaking into a run. I quietly slammed the door and spun around to see…a terrifying disappointment.
My friend’s toilet looked like a junior model. Not only was it smaller than average, but it also had a little plastic seat on it that was bending just from my gaze. While I won’t go into more details, if you are a big and heavy person you have probably had a similar experience.
Trying to hold yourself in a squatting position with your legs so that you don’t break the toilet or the seat is not a recipe for a relaxing experience. While I can’t help you when you’re over at your friend’s house, getting the best toilet seat for a heavy person will greatly increase your level of comfort and confidence in your own home!
Now, before we get to the specific reasons, here are the three toilet seats I recommend for big and heavy people:

Are You Big Enough To Need A High Weight Capacity Toilet Seat?
It may shock you to hear that the average toilet seat is designed to support less than 300lbs. Now, this doesn’t mean that it can be used by 300lb bathroom goers. Anytime you sit down or move around you put way more force on the seat than your weight. For example, a 200-pound person can easily exceed the weight limit with the force of sitting down which can lead a regular seat to crack in a very short amount of time.
Because of this, I recommend a heavy-duty toilet seat for heavy people as well as regular users.
In addition to the added weight capacity, toilet seats for fat people have many advantages over regular seats:
- They have a wide seating area, making them much more comfortable to sit on (especially for long periods of time).
- They are often elevated which means you will have an easier time sitting down and standing up.
- The elongated design makes for easier for big people to wipe themselves
- The superior weight distribution can make a regular toilet last longer when used by heavy people
So, with that awesome list of benefits, let’s talk about some of the best toilet seats for heavy people! Just be prepared, heavy toilets are highly engineered and are made of far better material (and more of it). Because of this, the following seats are more expensive than the ones you find at Walmart. After all, you get what you pay for!
Big John Products 6W – Best Toilet Seat For Heavy People
If you’ve spent much time looking for a plus-size toilet seat you’ll probably be pretty familiar with the name Big John. While they have dozens of specialty options, if you are looking for an affordable high capacity seat that is extremely comfortable and will fit on almost any toilet, this is it!
This seat is an excellent option for big guys, heavy families, high-traffic guest bathrooms, and everyone in between! Some of my favorite features include:
- High-grade plastic that will not stain, yellow, or show wear. This seat is designed to meet commercial standards and will last for years in your home
- Manufactured in the United States
- Fits all common toilet bowl shapes including round and elongated
- The best-priced seat in our review. The deal is sweetened even further by the fact that, if you buy from Amazon, high impact ABS hinges are included
- 19″ width makes this one of the largest (and most comfortable) seats on the market
As you can see above, this seat is incredibly wide! It provides an amazing amount of support and does so without looking overly commercial. If you want a super-strong seat at a super price, don’t wait!
Best Elevated Toilet Seat For Fat & Tall People
If you are large and heavy, an elevated toilet seat is an excellent option to make your bathroom trips a bit more comfortable. However, if you have guests or other family members using your commode then you might not want it to look like it has a child’s booster seating sitting on it. Big John’s 3-W adds an additional 2″ of lift to your seat which makes a huge difference in sitting, standing, and comfort during your bathroom experience.
In addition to the lift, this seat has an open front (commonly seen in commercial toilets) and a lid (not commonly seen in commercial toilets). The purpose of this front space is two-fold, it makes for easier wiping and prevents pee spots on the seat from men who do not bother to put the seat up. Win-win!
When it comes to capacity, this seat is a true heavyweight and is a step above our #1 recommendation. It is rated for a full 1,200 pounds which is probably significantly more than your toilet. This means, however, that you will never have to worry about it flexing, bending, and shifting when you are doing your business. If you need the extra capacity and the front opening is an appealing option this might be the best heavy-duty toilet seat for you!
Most Comfortable Round Toilet Seat For Obese People
If you liked the capacity of the 3-W above (1,200 pounds in case you forgot….) but don’t fancy the commercial look of the open front, this is your option! It has the same 2″ of rise, comes with a lid and mounting hardware, and is probably more luxurious and comfortable than any other toilet seat you’ve sat on!
How To Install And Oversized Toilet Seat
If the idea of installing a heavy-duty toilet seat has kept you from enjoying the comfort of one, let me put your fears to rest. With a wrench or pair of pliers, pretty much anyone can install a high-capacity toilet seat in 30 minutes or less. Check this out:
Wasn’t that easy?! Go ahead, order that seat and get it installed!
Do You Need A Heavy Duty Toilet Under Your Seat?
Most people who are overweight have never considered that they might be exceeding the weight limit of their toilet, but what about if you’re bariatric/obese? Well, the truth is, you’re probably fine using a normal toilet. The toilet seat is the weakest link and, once you have a heavy-duty version, your toilet package will probably hold around 1,000 pounds (the average capacity of a floor-mounted toilet). So unless you are over that weight limit, you’re probably okay to just get a toilet seat for fat people and go about your business as normal!
Our articles are typically much longer and more complex that is but, let’s face it, there’s not that much to a toilet seat. You simply need to find one that fits the bill, install it, and forget it for the next 10 years! Any of the toilet seats that we suggested for heavy people is a big enough upgrade from the average seat that I can honestly say you’ll probably be happy with whichever one you get. So make your choice and upgrade your throne!
The Best Toilet Accessory For Obese People
If you are new to the world of toilet comfort, perhaps you have not yet experienced a bidet. If you haven’t, I will tell you that you’re missing out. Nothing can quite top it in terms of cleanliness, comfort, and ease! Since the installation of a heavy-duty seat can limit the attachments that you can use, I have no choice but to recommend the one I use and love!
